CITTADELLA DEGLI ARCHIVI

Memoria della città, presenza nella contemporaneità e sguardo sul futuro: la Cittadella degli Archivi, in zona Niguarda a Milano, sta per diventare il più grande archivio d’Europa in un unico sito, con 190 km lineari complessivi.

Mi.MA sarà il nuovo nome di questo complesso, acronimo di Milano Metropolitan Archives.

La Cittadella degli Archivi non si ferma alla conservazione e messa a disposizione di documenti relativi alla città risalenti addirittura all’epoca napoleonica, ma vuole diventare un luogo ben riconoscibile, anche da chi vi passa, magari distrattamente, affianco.

Così, a gennaio 2022 sono stati inaugurati 40 nuovi murales ispirati alla storia del capoluogo lombardo: omaggi alle pittrici e scultrici delle avanguardie storiche e a Giorgio Strehler, la nazionale italiana al Vigorelli, la ristrutturazione del Teatro alla Scala, la prima illuminazione elettrica del Comune di Milano.

Queste alcune delle new entries opera di Maria Pogorzhelskaya, Andrea Crespi, Luca Di Maggio, Piero Figura e Omar Hassan.

Memory of the city, presence in the contemporary world and eye on the future: Cittadella degli Archivi (the Citadel of the Archives), in the Niguarda area of Milan, is about to become the largest archive in Europe on a single site, with a total of 190 linear km.

Mi.MA will be the new name of this complex, an acronym for Milan Metropolitan Archives.

The Citadel of the Archives does not aim at just preserving and making available documents related to the city (some of which date back to the Napoleonic era) but wants to become a landmark, even for those passing by, perhaps distractedly.

Thus, in January 2022, 40 new murals inspired by the history of the main city in Lombardy were inaugurated: tributes to the painters and sculptors of the historical avant-gardes and to Giorgio Strehler, the Italian national team at the Vigorelli, the restructuring of the Teatro alla Scala, the first electric lighting of the City of Milan.
