ITALO LUPI, IL CIBO E IL GRAPHIC DESIGN

Con Italo Lupi ho avuto modo di lavorare in tante occasioni. Oggi mi piace raccontare come uno dei maestri del graphic design ‘made in Italy’ abbia anch’esso lavorato con il tema del cibo. Insieme abbiamo realizzato queste immagini, pulite ed eleganti, nell’ambito di un suo progetto più vasto, un bel libro pieno di spunti e grandi autori, ‘Printed in Italy’, commissionato dall’Associazione Nazionale Italiana Industrie Grafiche Cartotecniche e Trasformatrici, che voleva illustrare la qualità dei diversi tipi di stampa (siamo nel 1988).

Arte e gastronomia hanno un lungo rapporto, e in questi anni ancora di più.  Queste immagini le vedo un po’ pioniere del food design.

In copertina, una foto che ho fatto anni fa. Ho cercato di raccontare in uno scatto la mia collaborazione professionale con Italo.

L’odore della pipa nel suo studio, seguito dal sapore di quelle caramelle alla menta che mi offriva sempre e che mi toglievano il respiro…

I worked with Italo Lupi in so many occasions. In this case I like to tell as one of the masters of the graphic design ‘made in Italy’ had also worked with the theme of food. Together we have made these pictures, clean and elegant, as part of his larger project, a book full of ideas and great authors, ‘Printed in Italy’, commissioned by the National Italian Graphic Industries and Paper Converting, who wanted to illustrate the quality of different types of prints (we are in 1988).

Art and gastronomy have a long relationship, and in recent years even more. These images for me are pioneers of food design.

On the cover, a photo that I made years ago. I tried to tell in one shot my professional collaboration with Italo.

The smell of his pipe in his study, followed by the taste of those mints he always offered me, taking my breath away…
